EURL WORKSHOP 2026
Willkommen zurück in Wien
Annual Workshop of the EURL for Insects and Mites 2026
EVENT CONCLUDED
This annual workshop once again took place in Vienna, at the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW). A total of 73 representatives from NRLs across 25 countries, along with EURL representatives and external guests, participated (online and in person) held on 18th June, 2026.
Located in the beautiful surroundings of Schönbrunn Palace Park, the workshop provided a full day of presentations and discussions on current topics and the results of the latest PT on Anoplophora glabripennis and A. chinensis. A particular focus was on invasive sap-feeding insects from the groups Thysanoptera and Hemiptera. International experts Chris Malumphy and Andrew Liebhold shared their expertise in inspiring keynote presentations, complemented by contributions from the EURL and NRLs. Updates on EURL activities and reports from NRLs in Austria, Slovakia and Sweden provided further insights and opportunities for exchange.

EURL Workshop 2026 on the premises of the Austrian Centre for Forests (BFW)
A special highlight after the workshop was an insect-catching evening. Several lighting stations were built up in the Palace Park Schönbrunn. EURL, BFW and recognized entomologists from Austria guided this activity. The participants had the opportunity to identify their caught insects in an outdoor lab, provided with additional guidance for the interplay between morphology and molecular biology. Overall, it was an exciting and highly engaging workshop. Many thanks to our colleagues at BFW for making the workshop and the insect-catching possible!

More than sixty entomologists from different NRLs attended the webinar and had the opportunity to observe adult specimens live under a digital stereomicroscope and to try to identify them in real-time using a simplified key in the form of a quiz.
The supporting presentations of the lectures given during the webinars are available in pdf below.
NEW! Both theoretical and practical parts were recorded in case you missed the webinar or you are eager to watch it again.
